These are a few of my Favorite things....

Writer's picture: Katie QuigleyKatie Quigley

When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when i'm feeling sad, i simply remember my favorite things, and then i don't feel so bad........ now how many of you sung that?? I know i did whilst typing it and had a cheeky little smile thinking about everyone else doing the same, but now on to the fun part =)

We all forget the most important person when our days are filled with gloom and doom, When putting ourselves first seems like the last thing we want to do, but you know what we should! As a mum i know i always put myself last, when i dish up tea of a night i do myself last, when i make breakfast i put myself last, when my kids are sick and i feel as though i'm getting sick also i still put myself last... why because that's what we do.

So now in saying that i have started very slowly to put myself first because without taking care of me how am i meant to look after anyone else if my mental health is suffering let alone my physical health, so to help with this, these are a few of my favorite things.... and starting in No particular order lol

1. Hot relaxing bath- I have one of these every night, i find that adding Epsom salts ( which are rich with magnesium a supplement that helps ease anxiety) helps to relax and re center me, it's like washing away all the crap I've dealt with that day!

2. Diffuse oils- there is not a day that i'm diffusing oils or wearing them ( i don't however ingest them personal choice) some of my go to blends to diffuse are, oh and i do use doterra so if you are unfamiliar with them i do apologise.

*Relax and Sleep

x4 drops of lavender

x3 drops of easy air

*Mental Clarity

X3 drops peppermint

X3 drops Frankincense

*Feeling Anxious

X3 drops peace

X2 drops Juniper berry

X3 drops lemon

*Refreshing

X3 drops Easy air

X2 drops Lavender

X2 drops lemon

3. Meditation- to be honest i used to think this was a load of shit!!! That was until i actually tried it and i mean really tired it stopped overthinking it and just let my mind focus on my breath, and it was a lot harder than i anticipated but i go the hang of it and i know use an app that i love ( no i'm not making people go out and buy it) but from all the ones i tried this is by far my favorite. Breethe has been an absolute game changer for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Meditation.app&hl=en_US

bath salts, add to your bath for added relaxation

4. Yoga- Yes another thing i thought was a crock load of shit, but again in saying that WOW why didn't i do this earlier. I am by no means a master nor am I very flexible but hey i give it a go and i can say after doing 15- 20 mins i most definitely feel a lot more in tune with myself and relaxed You tube have some great videos to follow and you can do in the comfort of your home winning on that one =)

5. Exercise- Now i know what your thinking when i'm feeling blah and having one of those days the last thing i want to do it go to the gym, well I am only just getting back into exercise and yes i pay for a gym membership do i use it well does twice count....... however i walk a lot and yoga is a form of exercise, so whether it be a walk around the block, a in home workout again you tube can help with this or a gym session, exercise is good for the soul and even better for those of us with mental health.

6&7- me time- why have i put 6 & 7 together well this is my time and i get this once my husband goes to bed and both the little rug rats, this is my recharge time and with this i sit and watch an episode of what ever series i may be watch and i love to have a cup of ginger tea, ginger is also great for increasing serotonin levels this helps to reduce your anxiety levels https://bebrainfit.com/ginger-health-benefits/.

Well after reading my go too's for helping me relax and stay on track with my mental health. I would really love to hear so of the things you guys use, send through a message or leave a comment if you happy to share with others. you may even like to give one of my Favorite things a try.
